Three injured in small fires near Grand Central, in Penn Station

Three people suffered minor injuries when two small fires broke out at two of Midtown’s most-traveled transit hubs Wednesday.

A small fire broke out inside the Graybar Building atop Grand Central Terminal on Lexington Ave. near E. 42nd St. about 9:30 a.m., FDNY officials said.

The second-floor fire was extinguished by sprinklers, but caused a heavy smoke condition that poured into the train station below.

Three people were overcome by smoke and treated at the scene.

About 20 minutes later and roughly a mile away, firefighters were dispatched to Penn Station near W. 33rd St. when rubbish ignited under a train platform.

Firefighters briefly closed down tracks 13 and 14 as they put out the small blaze, which also caused a smoke condition, although no injuries were reported.

Neither fire caused transit delays, officials said.
