The hurricane lays bare another risk to public health in Carolina: pig farms

Hurricane Florence provides a focal point, albeit a distressing one for all those who’ll be affected. (Coincidentally, a major climate change conference is underway right now in California, seeking to accelerate ambition among countries, cities, corporations and individuals.) The evidence is mounting that we need to talk seriously now about changing diets, shifting policy priorities, ending monocultures, and generating resilience and food security through our agricultural systems. Unless we do, it won’t be only the pigs that will be drowning in their own waste.
