Skelos, son accuse federal prosecutors of leaking sealed info

The feds improperly divulged information on grand jury proceedings related to the investigation of disgraced ex-pol Dean Skelos and his son, the father and son allege in new court papers.

Dean and Adam Skelos are demanding a hearing into alleged “prosecutorial misconduct” surrounding grand jury proceedings in the corruption case against them, according to the documents filed late Thursday in Manhattan Federal Court.

The former state Senate majority leader, 70, and his son, 35, are awaiting a June 18 retrial on corruption charges. The Second Circuit Court of Appeals tossed their December 2015 convictions in September.

They maintain news reports about grand jury proceedings — which cite “government sources” — must have stemmed from leaks.

“There is no longer any doubt that the government repeatedly disclosed grand jury secrets” such as the fact that the Skeloses were going to be indicted — violating legal procedure, their lawyers claimed.

The lawyers also said that former Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara “publicly revealed his intent to indict Dean Skelos” following the January 2015 arrest of ex-state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, 74, on corruption charges.

Bharara said Skelos was “more likely to be arrested by the authorities than defeated in election,” according to court papers.

The Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to comment.

A rep for Bharara could not be reached.
