A registered nurse riding a bicycle was run over by a dump truck on the Lower East Side Wednesday night.
The 50-year-old was riding on Ridge St. when a Dump Masters 10-wheeler heading east on Stanton St. made a right turn, and slammed into her just after 10:15 p.m., police sources said.
She was run over by the front wheels of the truck and may lose a leg, sources said.
Medics took her to Bellevue Hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators believe she may have been going the wrong way down Ridge, which is a one-way street, based on where she was struck, sources said.
“There was a crash and a scream,” said Sam Ahn, a visiting medical student from Dallas who sprang into action.
“The truck actually ran over her,” Ahn explained. “The driver’s side wheels went over both her legs. Her left leg was decimated. She was conscious and talking. I did the best I could with the medical training I have. I kept her calm and talking.”
The driver of the truck remained on the scene. He appeared shaken as detectives spoke to him. The unidentified 45-year-old man was driving on a suspended license and taken into custody, police sources said.
