Brett Kavanaugh, Clarence Thomas, Christine Blasey Ford and the historical fallacy

Ford and Kavanaugh have tentatively agreed to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, but that may not come off; on Monday, Sen. Dianne Feinstein — the Judiciary Committee’s top-ranking Democrat — called for a postponement of Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, pending an FBI investigation of Ramirez’s charges. Whatever happens, we should keep in mind that Christine Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez and Brett Kavanaugh aren’t historical forces, trends, or patterns; they’re individuals. We need to judge them as such, or history might not forgive us.
