Rob Thomson met with Yankees brass for 5-6 hours during his managerial interview on Wednesday in New York.
Thomson, 54, who was Joe Girardi’s bench coach and has been in the organization for nearly three decades, cited “communication and trust with the players” as his main strengths.
“I’ve always wanted to manage,” said Thomson, who had a phone interview for the Blue Jays vacancy in October 2010.
While not giving specifics, Thomson said the interview was very thorough and covered a number of topics. Front office members Brian Cashman, Gene Afterman, Tim Naehring and Dan Giese were in the room for it.
David Cone and John Flaherty both interested in Yanks manager job
