Readers sound off school tests, parental separation and Old Timers’ Day

Richmond Hill: As a graduate of Brooklyn Tech (now retired), I have a good picture of the system. I had no intention of going to Tech, but Sister Grace Therese signed me up for the test and I got in with no prep whatsoever. A lot got in; many dropped out, as always. A special school is just that. It gives the ones with the most promise a shot at something better. If there is a problem, fix it with the parents and schools when the boys and girls are 4 years old, not 12. I had a father and mother who made sure I did my homework, had a library card ASAP, and read National Geographic, and Popular Science and watched “Mr. Wizard.” The rest was up to me! Robert Clolery
