Longtime Mets PR man Jay Horwitz to transition into new role as team historian

The beloved PR man as been a fixture in Flushing since arriving on April 1, 1980, becoming a fan favorite over the years as he would regularly be referenced during game broadcasts. So popular is Horwitz that the Mets even had a “Jay Horwitz Bobblehead Day” back in 2013. With the 50th anniversary of the Mets’ first-ever World Championship back in 1969 fast approaching, Horwitz will “evolving his role to focus more on broadening the Mets’ alumni base and serve as our inaugural team historian,” read a statement. “Jay’s special relationship with fans and alumni, bolstered through nearly 40 years with the Mets, make him the optimal person to cultivate Mets history, side by side with our alumni, for 2019’s celebration and all those yet to come.”
