Bryant and Barnes didn’t have a long history, but one game — and one moment — between the two in February 2010 stuck out. Barnes, playing for the Magic, antagonized Bryant throughout the game. The two traded elbows and went chest-to-chest in the third quarter, with Barnes earning a technical. Later in the third with Bryant covering him on an inbounds pass, Barnes faked a pass right at Bryant’s face, less than a foot away. Bryant didn’t flinch or react at all, continuing to stare Barnes down and producing one of Bryant’s signature stone-faced moments. The following offseason, Barnes joined Bryant on the Lakers hoping to help L.A. win a third straight title. The Lakers failed to pull off a three-peat in 2010-11, instead getting swept by the Mavericks, but Barnes and Bryant got along great. The two became close friends in their two years playing together, united by their shared competitiveness.
