Rare Apple-1 computer sells for $375,000 — and it still works more than 40 years later

The Apple-1 was initially designed as a bare circuit board to be utilized by hobbyists who assemble computers. Jobs then struck a deal with the Byte Shop in Mountain, Calif., to sell the store 50 Apple-1s, but the shop’s owner insisted the units must arrive already assembled and not as kits. Jobs agreed to the deal and he and Wozniak essentially developed the first “personal” computer that didn’t require completion by the buyer. The unit needed only to be attached to a keyboard and a monitor.
