RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) — School officials say a Vermont teenager raised red flags before he was accused of planning a massacre at his former high school.
Fair Haven Union High School Principal Jason Rasco testified Tuesday that Jack Sawyer showed a strong interest in the Columbine school shooting during his time at the Fair Haven school.
He says Sawyer did a project on Columbine and created a Facebook page using the surname of one of the shooters.
A state police detective says Sawyer acknowledged that he wanted to kill as many people as possible and then shoot himself in the library, like Columbine shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.
Sawyer’s attorneys say the charges against him, which include attempted murder, are excessive. Sawyer has pleaded not guilty.
