NAACP official to visit school following racist video

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Administrators of a Rhode Island Roman Catholic high school plan to meet with local NAACP leadership after a video of the school’s former principal using racial slurs was made public.

Providence NAACP President Jim Vincent tells WJAR-TV he will meet with Bishop Hendricken High officials at their request. The meeting comes in the wake of Principal Joseph Brennan Jr.’s retirement after video surfaced of him using slurs to describe black people and Jewish people.

Vincent told WPRI-TV on Thursday he wasn’t sure what the meeting would be about. Vincent said he would “keep an open mind” when visiting the Warwick school.

The six-second video clip has drawn widespread condemnation.

Brennan, a 40-year employee of the school, has declined to comment to local media.
